Is it illegal to watch free movies online? Should the viewer or the webmaster be legally responsible?

I and some friends were having a conversation about new movies we would like to see. One suggested that instead of paying 9 to 10 bucks at the movies you can watch it for free online. I being curious searched and truthfully, there are a lot of website showing movies online for free!!! I was surprise but didn't watch. Is it legal to watch?

3. its illegal to download and buy movies from an unauthorized site. but if the movie is streamed then you dont have to worry about the law.
4. This is a gray area, but the viewer of the video is not going to get in trouble. What would happen is that the company producing the movie would contact the website telling them to take it down.
5. It's not illegal to watch them... but it is illegal to download them.... go to ovguide.com they have a list of all the places where you can watch movies online for free.... they even have stuff that is still in the theater! I watch movies on there all the time
6. Some websites do have free movies that they are authorized to show, but more likely than not, they are illegal. Just check out the websites and look around. You should find somewhere on the site if they are or are not authorized.
7. For you it is not illegal you as american citizen have to right to watch a movie for free if you happen to find it, however it is illegal for the person to put on the video or sell bootleg copies however the viewers and the customers are not held responsible.
8. If you watch online it give a pause in between . So better download it.
9. You should be worried about the viruses that travel thru those websites . The viruses will infect your computer and make it crash . There is nothing for free in this society so the risk you take could cause you to lose your computer .
